Gentlemen:

I was asked by Mr. Lynn Cartlidge of the Forrest County Board of Supervisors to investigate a couple of railroad crossings in Northern Forrest County and Southern Jones County.

I have enclosed several maps and pictures of both crossings and will attempt to discuss the pros and cons of each.

Eastabuchie Road is a State-Aid Road with a project being finished on it in about 1994. It has a 22-foot paved surface with a total ROW of 100 feet and crosses the Southern Railroad at a 90° angle. This particular road is mostly in Forrest County and for about the final Western 2500 feet runs down the Forrest-Jones County line. The road was constructed using Forrest County State-Aid monies. And the County has plans which they hope to discuss with Jones County on constructing a new route from Eastabuchie Road's intersection with U. S. Highway No. 11 over to Interstate Highway No. 59, which is shown on one of the enclosed maps.

On the other hand, North Eastabuchie Road which lies about 500 feet North of Eastabuchie Road in Jones County, has about a 16-18 foot paved surface with very little ROW, if any. And once you reach Leeville Road which parallels the Southern Railroad, your turn right and travel about 200-250 feet, then turn left to proceed over the railroad on an upward grade.

And sight distance when you approach the railroad favors Eastabuchie Road.

I think once you review the enclosed maps and pictures, I think it will be evident that no reason exist to close Eastabuchie Road Railroad Crossing.

If I can furnish further information, please advise.

     With kindest regards, I remain

  Sincerely,

Raymond M. Dearman, P.E., R.L.S.
